Cloakroom Installation in Durham | WC & Sink Upgrade
This recent cloakroom installation in Durham is a perfect example of how a small, underutilised space can be transformed into a fully functional and stylish room with the right planning and attention to detail.
The property originally had a toilet-only WC, with no hand-washing facilities and outdated heating. The client wanted to modernise the space, improve practicality, and ensure the room met modern expectations—all without making it feel cramped.
Maximising Space in a Narrow Durham Cloakroom
Space was tight, so every element had to earn its place. We installed a compact vanity basin, giving the room proper hand-washing facilities while maintaining clear floor space. The wall-mounted design keeps the layout visually open, which is essential in narrow cloakrooms like this one.
Alongside this, we fitted a new modern close-coupled toilet, improving both efficiency and appearance. The updated fittings give the room a clean, contemporary feel while remaining practical for everyday use.
Concealed Pipework for a Clean, High-Quality Finish
One of the key technical aspects of this Durham installation was the plumbing. All new pipework was dropped down from above and fully hidden within the walls, removing the need for surface-mounted pipework.
This approach delivers a much cleaner finish and allows the room to feel purpose-designed rather than adapted. It’s a detail that makes a significant difference, especially in compact spaces where every visual distraction is amplified.
Improved Heating with a New Radiator
To enhance comfort, we installed a new slimline radiator, positioned carefully to provide efficient heat without overwhelming the room. This ensures the cloakroom stays warm, comfortable, and practical throughout the year—particularly important in Durham properties where ground-floor WCs can often feel cold.
Classic Colour Scheme Using Farrow & Ball
The chosen colour palette helps elevate the entire space:
- Walls: Farrow & Ball – Pointing
- Panelling and window frame: Farrow & Ball – Hardwick White
These soft, neutral tones work beautifully in a smaller room, reflecting light and adding warmth without feeling stark. The contrast between the walls and panelling adds subtle definition and a timeless finish.
The Finished Result
This Durham cloakroom has been transformed from a basic WC into a fully compliant, modern, and comfortable space. With a new sink, toilet, radiator, and concealed pipework, the room now meets both practical needs and aesthetic expectations.
If you’re considering a cloakroom or WC upgrade in Durham, even in a tight or awkward space, this project demonstrates what can be achieved with professional installation and careful planning.
